Events? Not many. But we look forward to being able to get back to some normalcy soon. Here’s what we’re checking on: Will Sutherland has two pilot cutters, Insta-worthy classic sailboats based in St-Malo, France. He’s trying to organize an alumni cruise in late August or early September. Participants will have the option of sleeping on one of his boats or, if they prefer more privacy and amenities, staying in a hotel. Others may want to bring their own boats. Alas, nothing is firm at this point. For updates and more information go to www.elsleaders/biyc.
Elisabeth van der Grampel normally organizes an Oktoberfest get-together in München/Munich every September. She has informed us that there will NOT be an Oktoberfest get-together this year. We all look forward to 2022.
And we traditionally have several reunions in the United States in the autumn. The Aiglon Alumni Office organizes most of them, the FOAC usually mounts a major event in New York. Those plans, too, are still fluid. We’ll pass on more information as we get it. Meanwhile, don’t forget that the FOAC is still raising money for scholarships. Please help out if you can.
If you’re going to be in or around London on Monday, May 31 (a bank holiday), join us at Maidenhead for a polo match between Aiglon and Gordonstoun. It’s great outdoor fun! Admission is free. The asado after the match is 30£. There also will be a certain (essential )liquid refreshment, but we’re not sure we can talk about that. The match is at noon.
Carlitos’ White Waltham Polo Club, Smewins Road, White Waltham, Berkshire SL6 3SR
Directions: Exit at junction 8/9 of the M4, about three miles from the exit, pass White Waltham air field on your right, past the cricket ground on your right, next left at Kiln Hill, across the crossroads, left at the next junction and Smewins Farm is next on the right. For more information call Kim on +07748670587 or email kim@playpolo.co.uk
Well, you may have seen it listed in the Diary section of Aiglon, The Magazine (Summer/Autumn 2020), but our annual New York get-together has been canceled this year, for obvious reasons. Trick or treat.
It’s an Event to Remember!* Join us Wednesday October 30 in the Empire State Building at the recently opened Tacombi restaurant, run by Luis Berenbau (Delaware, 1997), for some outstanding Mexican food and drinks.
This is a great opportunity to catch up with fellow Aiglonians and meet some (alumni) parents and spouses. Check out Luis’s taqueria menu here. Executive Director Richard McDonald and newly appointed Director of Development & Alumni Relations Reid Ching are looking forward to welcoming you!

* Okay. It has been brought to our attention that many alums may not get the reference here. So here’s an explanation so everybody will appreciate how clever we are. “An Event to Remember” is a switch on An Affair to Remember, the 1957 movie classic starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. It’s a real tearjerker about a couple who meet on an ocean liner and agree to meet six months later atop the… EMPIRE STATE BUILDING! (Though, admittedly, not to chow down on tacos.) Alas, fate intervenes. Sleepless in Seattle (1993, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan) was inspired in part by the film.
Join us Thursday October 24 at the Cambridge Brewing Company for drinks and nibbles courtesy of the traveling Aiglon “we-love-our-alums” committee.
This is a great opportunity to catch up with fellow Aiglonians and meet some (alumni) parents and spouses. You can find the CBC’s website here. (Check out those sprouts with mustard on the home page! That burger doesn’t look half bad either.) In fact, here’s what one patron from Sarasota had to say about the CBC on TripAdvisor:
“This place has great atmosphere, food, beer and wait staff. I had a flight of beer, chose a beer I liked and had the burger of the day. It had apple and cheddar and a spicy aioli. The hand cut fries were amazing.”
So, we deem it definitely worth the effort to show up, especially as the school is paying for it. Executive Director Richard McDonald and newly appointed Director of Development & Alumni Relations Reid Ching are looking forward to welcoming you!

If it's September, it's time once again for... Oktoberfest (the 186th one)! Elisabeth van de Grampel is once again hosting Aiglon’s annual Munich beer —and wine—bash at the famous Kuffler’s Weinzelt, located on the Wiesn, Saturday 21 September, 2019, from 4pm–8pm. In addition to the Paulaner wheat beer on tap, you can ply yourself with Prosecco, wine, and Champagne. Places are always limited, so please contact us so we can put you in touch with her as soon as possible to reserve your ticket(s). Prosit!… or zum Wohl! https://www.oktoberfest.de/en/beer-tents/big-tents/kufflers-wine-tent
It was a major milestone event—Aiglon's 70th-Anniversary Alpine Bash. Over 800 people descended on Chesières-Villars, the largest reunion ever, and everybody seemed to agree that the event was a resounding success. Pictures to be posted soon.
Clockwise from the upper left: a weekend at the Hôtel Ermitage de l‘Oasis, on the Mediterranean, near Cannes; Golf at Beaverbrook, in Surrey, just outside London; a week at Siri Mendira Villas, in Bali; one night and dinner for two at Margutta|19 in Rome; two premium tickets to “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” plus a night at the Hotel Bayerische Hof in Munich; and a week at a condo at Alta, Utah.
If it's September, it's gotta be time for... Oktoberfest! Elisabeth van de Grampel is excited to announce that this year’s Aiglon Munich Oktoberfest is taking place in Weinzelt (yes, she says, they also serve beer) on Saturday 22 September, 2018, from 4pm–8pm. Places are strictly limited, so please contact us so we can tell you how to contact her as soon as possible to reserve your ticket(s). Prosit!
This autumn, join other Aiglon alums at the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke (one of the best beer gardens at the fairgrounds) for some unforgettable Gemütlichkeit at the FOAC EU's fourth annual Munich Oktoberfest. For more information and reservations, go to the Aiglon alumni FB page. We've only reserved 20 places this year, so buy your tickets now!
Join us May 5th for an Aiglon alumni party in Boston!
Meet fellow alumni and help us toast the success of the class of '17. Enjoy complementary appetizers and a welcome drink, courtesy of the FOAC US.
Alibi is located in the former "drunk tank" at the renovated Charles Street Jail—a fun place for a get-together with fellow Aiglonians.
The FOAC Special Events Committee, led by the indefatigable Noel Thompson, is hard at work organizing this autumn's school Reception and Alumni Gala in New York. Mita Corsini-Bland's husband, Gerald, has generously arranged for the Reception to take place on Friday, October 28th, 6:00 p.m., at his gallery in the Fine Arts Building at 59th and Third (www.geraldblandinc.com). The Gala Dinner and Auction will take place on Saturday the 29th at the Yale Club, at 50 Vanderbilt Avenue. Drinks in the Library at 6:00 p.m. Dinner in the Grand Ballroom (a last-minute upgrade!) at 7:00, followed by an auction. Check out our new FOAC special events site to see a listing of some special auction items and a schedule of events. Then go to the 'Bidding For Good' site and buy your tickets now!
Aiglon goes Art Deco! Join us October 27th at the Soho Beach House—near the Fontainebleau—on Miami Beach. RSVP here.
Last year, we stumbled upon Forma, not knowing one of the owners is an alum. This year, he's agreed to host the event! RSVP here.
Once again this year, alumnus Ben Suter has agreed to host the reunion reception at his offices. RSVP here.

Is it possible that 1976 was forty years ago? Line Stump Magnin pulled out a calculator and did the math. She says numbers don't lie—although they can be fudged. So everybody who was at Aiglon during those halcyon days (whether actually in the class of '76 or not) is invited to a big bash on the Mountain next summer. People have been reserving their places on Line's Facebook page, under 'events': ('29 June to 03 July 2016 40th Reunion for Class of 1976'). There's also a reservation page on the Aiglon Life site. Note that the first events are actually scheduled for the 30th, though most people (40 so far) are arriving the day before. Contact us if you haven't gotten a Facebook invitation or need more information.
Sandro Corsini posted this: "Most importantly I will again lead a group expedition from Col de la Croix to Bretaye and Lac Noire, over an alpine ridge which is one of my favorite walks in the world! The plan is to then meet with all for a picnic lunch, near the lake. Can't wait!"
So we'll need a few oxygen tanks, a guitar, and somebody who can do a passable impression of Julie Andrews singing Do-Re-Mi. Dust off your hiking boots and start learning the lyrics now. We'll see you in the Alps next summer!
You know what they say: "Old skiers never die; they just go downhill—fast." Save the dates and check back for more details about activities and exact times. You can book accommodations here: http://www.villars.ch/en/page.cfm/Sejour/Hebergements/Hotels
The New York October reception will be held at a private home. Attendees will receive the address and directions after they RSVP.
